Josh Mandrell, MD, is a 30-year-old Christian doctor, youth speaker, former youth minister, and author.  Josh was born in West Frankfort, Illinois, and is the son of a homemaker mother who became nurse and a coal miner/construction worker father who became a nurse later in life as well.  He has a younger brother and sister, both of whom are married.  He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences and minor in chemistry from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2002.  He completed 4 years of medical school at St. Louis University School of Medicine in 2007.  He graduated medical school with a “Distinction in Research” for multiple research projects and pending publications in sickle cell disease, vascular malformations, Mohs micrographic surgery, and adnexal tumor syndromes, with a “Distinction in Community Service” for leadership and projects with the Health Resource Center free-clinic in northern St. Louis, and as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.  While at SLU SOM, he served as president of the Christian Medical and Dental Association, Vice President of the chapter’s American Medical Student Association, Dean’s representative of the Class of 2007, President of the Aids in Managing Stress organization, and as a member of the medical school’s admissions committee.  Dr. Mandrell finished his medical internship at St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.  He is currently a dermatology resident at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, where he resides.

Josh served as youth minister of Trinity United Methodist Church in West Frankfort, Illinois, from 1998-2003 and served from 2005-2007 as youth minister of Nashville Grace United Methodist Church in Nashville, Illinois.  Since the age of 16, Josh has had the privilege of speaking at literally hundreds of venues including confirmation retreats, youth rallies, youth camps, and church revivals in multiple states of various denominations and continues to speak at each opportunity.  He has been a certified lay speaker in the United Methodist church since 1998, has served as a director of church camps, and has held multiple positions on youth ministry committees at various levels.  Josh started Looking Beyond, the company managing speaking opportunities and publications, in 2008.

He carries a huge burden to see people connected in a deeper way to their Lord and Savior.  He loves the Chicago Cubs baseball team, playing the guitar and piano, reading, and jogging.  As a single man, he is thankful for his friends and family and daily prays for the young woman God chooses to bring into his life.
